Hikkaduwa marine park in Sri Lanka

The Hikkaduwa marine park is a natural park which is located in southern province in Sri Lanka. it was declared as a wild life sanctuary in 1979. Later on August 14, 1988, upgraded to a nature reserve with extended land area.

In this marine park very attractive fringing coral reef is available with very high degree of biodiversity.

In this coral reef 113 species of colorful fish have been recorded. Many invertebrates such as crabs, turtles, shrimps, lobsters, oysters, sea worms and three species of turtles are also reported there.

Visitors can view these wonders through glass bottom boats but it is not allowed to swim because the coral reef is protected.

Any body who wish to visit Hikkaduwa should visit there bet ween November to April because the sunshine in the area is very bright and beautiful at that time. So that beach lovers can enjoy very much.

Other than the coral area there is a very beautiful beaches and various visiting places are available in Hikkaduwa. They are Community Tsunami Museum, turtle Hatchery, hikkaduwa Beach, tsunami Honganji Vihara, narigama Beach, Seenigama Muhudu Viharaya, saffron Robes and art Galleries.

There are many luxury residential places and hotels in Hikkaduwa for local and foreign visitors and they can spent memorable moments in divine beach in Sri Lanka.
